Group Development and Applications of In Vitro Techniques - Introduction

INVITROIn vitro culture involves several techniques that are very useful for plant breeding. These techniques include, among others: meristem culture, micropropagation, embryo rescue, genetic transformation and somatic hybridization. Our group develops and improves in vitro culture protocols and applies in vitro techniques for crop breeding, mainly in species from the Solanaceae and Cucurbitaceae families (tomato, pepper, eggplant, zucchini) as well as others such as grape. Regeneration from explants and genetic transformation can be carried out with a variety of objectives: abiotic stress tolerance, quality improvement, etc.
